Royal Palace of Venaria Guided Tour

The Royal Palace of Venaria, just outside Turin, is often called the Versailles of the Savoy dynasty — and for good reason.

Step inside the private apartments, richly decorated with frescoes and stuccoes, and marvel at the spectacular Great Gallery and the Church of St. Hubert, both masterpieces of European Baroque architecture by Filippo Juvarra.

Your visit continues through the Royal Stables, where you’ll find the luxurious Bucentaur ceremonial boat and elegant carriages, then out into the vast Gardens, dotted with contemporary sculptures by internationally renowned artists.

Just a few kilometres from Turin, the former hunting lodge of the House of Savoy was transformed into one of Europe’s most imposing royal palaces, known by many as the Versailles of the Savoys.

With a guided tour of Venaria Reale, explore the more intimate 17th-century spaces, decorated with frescoes and stuccoes that once welcomed the court during hunting expeditions. Accompanied by an expert guide, you will be amazed by the lavish Rococo rooms, the spectacular Grand Gallery, the Royal Apartments and the majestic Chapel of St. Hubert, a masterpiece by the celebrated architect Filippo Juvarra.

The tour continues through the Royal Stables, where a collection of historic carriages and the impressive Bucentaur, an 18th-century pleasure boat, are on display. The tour ends with a stroll through the Gardens, a true open-air museum featuring contemporary sculptures.

Optional excursion: La Mandria Castle

To complete your visit to the Reggia di Venaria, you can continue with an excursion to La Mandria Castle, surrounded by the greenery of La Mandria Nature Park. Built in the 18th century as a horse-breeding establishment for the court and the army, in the 19th century it became the private residence of Victor Emmanuel II and Rosa Vercellana, the celebrated Bela Rosin. Away from the strict etiquette of court life, Italy’s first king loved spending his time here hunting, with his horses and enjoying life in the open air. An interesting extension to your visit to the Reggia di Venaria, offering the chance to discover a more intimate and lesser-known side of the House of Savoy.
