Guided tour of St Michael’s Abbey in Susa Valley
Tour of the Abbey and optional visit of Avigliana
La Sacra di San Michele is one of the most impressive monuments in Piedmont, a strategic point to reach Rome or Santiago de Compostela. This Benedectine Abbey perched on the top of the Monte Pirchiriano, at 1000 metres (3280 ft) inspired the writer Umberto Eco for The Name of the Rose.
Discover the most evocative attractions such as the Great Staircase of the Dead, the Portal of the Zodiac, the Romanesque-Gothic Church on the top of the mountain and the panoramic terrace with a breathtaking view over the Susa Valley.
An optional visit can be added to the medieval and picturesque village of Avigliana, at the foot of the Sacra. Dominated by the ruins of the castle, the historic centre presents the typical narrow winding streets and Gothic porticoed house.
